Today I'll collect your paragraphs from yesterday, and then we'll get our 10 minutes of reading time. When we're done, we'll play a review game to help us prepare for tomorrow's essay. We will also use these practice prompts to get us thinking about tomorrow's task,

Today we are going to put all the pieces of this week together in a writing practice over "The Bear." We will spend time composing an introduction to the following prompt. Then we'll work together to revise our work before turning it in. "The Bear" by Anton Chekhov is a one-act play that centers on the meeting of Mr. Smirnov and the recently widowed Mrs. Popov. Write an essay in which you analyze how Chekhov uses literary devices to characterize the pair and capture their situation. You may wish to consider literary devices such as tone and irony. In your response, be sure to include the following:
